Last tenth of December, the period for the receipt of slides for the present XVI edition - 2005 closed. The invitation to take part, which was issued last September to all mountain and nature photographers, could not have been more successful, as we have already received many high quality images for this Memorial from photographers from Europe, Asia, Africa and America; especially if we consider that, in this digital era, only analogical images have been accepted.
From now, the slides will be viewed by our jury panel in charge of awarding the prizes; one by one they will be studied on the light table and through the tester; they will be displayed on the screen and, in the end, a few will be awarded prizes. Thus, the jury has a difficult, very difficult task ahead of them. We hope their decisions will be the right ones and wish all participants good luck. All we can do now is wait for the results, which will be published next January 13th, 2006. Meanwhile, Merry Christmas to all participants and to everyone else.
As every year, the month of September marks the beginning of a new edition of our mountain and nature photographic slide competition. This will be the sixteenth edition. The organisers have significantly improved the Awards section, following suggestions from previous competitors and we hope that both the number and the quality of the slides entered in this competition will, at least, match the level of previous editions.
All mountain and nature photographers have been called on to take part in the competition and may start to prepare the photographs with which they intend to participate. Please take into account that the deadline will be the tenth of December and that all slides, even those awarded prizes, will be returned to their owners once the competition is over.
This Web site will keep you informed on all aspects relating to the Competition. You may also obtain the rules for the 2005 competition and the inscription form. If you should have any query or suggestion, please contact us by e-mail at info@memorialmarialuisa.com or by telephone or fax at the numbers indicated in the rules document.
Good luck to all
The long and complex deliberations of our jury have taken into consideration almost one thousand images on mountaineering, landscapes, climbing, flora, fauna, customs, etc., all related to mountain themes. This task has been especially difficult, once again, as they had to choose two winning slides: one for the traditional award and another for the special prize of this 2004 edition concerning rock climbing, the world of climbers and verticality. This has been our way of celebrating the first centenary of the climbing of the Naranjo de Bulnes "Picu Urriellu".
A total of thirty prizes have been awarded this year and the "main" two have gone, unlike last year, to foreign photographers (Germany and France) and the rest have gone to Spanish, European and American participants. The technical and artistic quality of the images that have reached us from beyond our borders is undoubtedly higher than on previous editions.
We hope to be able to enjoy the images and photographers next February 11th, at 8 o'clock in the evening, at the Cajastur Culture Centre in Oviedo, during the award giving ceremony, to which you are now invited.
