Extraordinary Novice Prize 2008
My name is Michal Budzynski. I'm a young nature photographer and a member of Polish Nature Photographers' Union. I live close to a picturesque town - Bielsko-Biala, in the Beskidy Mountains, in the southern Poland. In a place surrounded by stunning views, in summer full of lush vegetation and in winter covered by snow.
An intention to share the nature's beauty with others had an influence on my interest in the photography; since 2006 I've been trying to take pictures of nature. I like capturing unique moments and sights as well as places unaffected by civilization - places, where people have lived in their own rythm for centuries. Recently, I'm spending more and more time on photographing landscapes - especially breath-taking Polish mountains. However, I don't do climbing.
As my biggest achievements I consider getting twice Highly Commended in the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2007 and 2008 competitions, 2 nd Prize in National Wildlife's 2008 Photo Contest and winning the Extraordinary Novice Prize in Memorial Maria Luisa competition. I was also awarded in some of the Polish competitions.
I heard of the Memorial Maria Luisa competition from my friend – Jerzy Grzesiak. He was the winner of the Extraordinary Novice Prize (2007) and he encouraged me to take part in this contest. But after watching the photos awarded in previous years, I didn't believe him talking that I had great chances. However, when I heard about the results I was really surprised. It is such a great honour to be awarded in this prestigious competition. And it's wonderful that I can travel to Spain to meet the organizers and other winners. Thank you!
