28/12/2009.- MERRY CHRISTMAS
22/12/2009.- The jury’s deliberations have already started
Having recorded, codified and classified all the material we have received, the photograph are handed over to the jury in charge of declaring the prizes for the 2009 competition, to which images from 38 countries compete, for the first time attending photographers from Venezuela, Latvia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Nepal, Israel, Macedonia, Estonia, Ireland and Malta, so the number of participating countries in this Memorial rises to sixty.
Experience from former editions makes us know that many long sessions will be necessary before the jury can arrive at a final compromise.
In order to hold sessions under the highest technique guarantees, the Net Computers classroom has been fitted out properly: such is the place where images are viewed and debates on them are held. All computer equipment to be used has also been calibrated suitably.
On January 7th 2010 the verdict will be published. By now we have to wait and wish the best of luck to all contestants, also a very Happy Christmas and a good year 2010.
16/11/2009.- LAST DAYS FOR THE SUBMISSION OF PHOTOGRPHS FOR THE 20TH EDITION OF THE CONTEST
As everybody knows, the period for submission of works for the 20th edition of the contest finishes on 1st December 2009. Entry of photographs could not be going better as many photographers prefer not to leave it to the last minute. In any case, latecomers are still in time and since a few days ago have had the advantage and convenience of being able to send their photographs and other information online
And although the presentation period has not yet finished, we know from the experience of the last two decades that the majority of the photographs have still not arrived. On the other hand, it is our great pleasure to take this opportunity to welcome photographers from countries new to our competition such as Venezuela, Latvia, Australia, Azerbaijan and Nepal.
01/09/2009.- OPENING OF THE 20TH EDITION OF THE COMPETITION
Greetings to all once again.
Two decades after its first edition, the María Luisa Memorial renews its traditional appointment with all mountain and nature photographers. This edition presents various significant novelties, amongst which are: digital mediums will be the only support format admitted, irrespective of the technique employed to capture the original image; there will be to clearly differentiated subjects, mountains and nature. There are new thematic prizes and a new section for young photographers under 20 years old, and the already familiar sections devoted to mountaineering and climbing will continue,
Making use of the opportunities offered by new technologies, this website will punctually inform contestants of all that happens during the running of the competition. All that is needed to participate will be available on this site.
True to its original principles of independence and transparency, and with no economic or commercial interest, this competition continues to make the promotion and dissemination of the artistic work of the photographers who participate year after year its only goal, sharing it with the rest of the contestants and all those who are attracted by mountains and natural surroundings and the values that these transmit.
We hope that the initiative will once again arouse your interest and enjoyment, and that we can count on your participation.

This idea has become a reality thanks to our technological partners from NetAsturias
in Infiesto and to the Cajastur

10/02/2009.- ASTURCON PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD
According to the schedule prepared by the Organisation, the new image of the trophy for the first prize should have been made public during the XX edition of the Contest. Given the exceptional acceptance that the present edition is enjoying, the organisation has decided to make the said award known during the present edition. This will be the image that, in the future, will be linked to the first prize of the Contest and that will be unique and exclusive to each edition.
It will consist in an iron sculpture of an Astur Asturcon made by an Asturian artist and will represent the values of our land and its exceptional natural heritage. A work of art that will undoubtedly be desired by many photographers from all over the world during future editions. Anxo Rial will be the first winner of the Contest to receive the said award: the 2008 Photograph Asturcón
07/01/2009.- WE NOW HAVE WINNERS FOR THE XIX - 2008 EDITION OF THE CONTEST
As has become a tradition, this Memorial welcomes the New Year and awards its prizes practically at the same time. And that has also been the case this year. Consequently, we are happy to announce the decision of the Jury in charge of awarding the prizes for the XIX edition of the contest, a singular event on this occasion as, for the first time, photographers from the five continents have taken part. We would like to congratulate all the contestants and especially those who have won prizes, as all the photographs submitted were of the highest level from both an artistic and technical point of view, as can be seen in the IMAGE GALLERY below.
The prizes will be awarded next 14th February 2009 at the Cajastur Cultural Centre in Oviedo during an event to which all participants and other mountain and photography enthusiasts are welcome.
